Dave Prior, PMI, USAMr. Prior currently works as a Program Manager for EMC’s Microsoft Practice. In that capacity he leads engagements for a number of EMC’s higher profile clients in the Oklahoma/Arkansas area. Over the past 13 years Mr. Prior has led IT & Telecommunications projects and programs for clients like Viacom, Sprint, Bank of New York, EarthLink, Alltel and Chesapeake Energy. He has also spent a considerable amount of time teaching project management and PMP Certification in the U.S., Central America, Europe and the UAE.
In addition to the work he does for EMC, Mr. Prior is also currently serving as the Chair of PMI’s IT & Telecommunications Special Interest Group. The IT&T SIG is the second largest special interest group within PMI and it serves over 6,000 members worldwide. Since taking on the role as Chair, Dave has taken the lead in introducing a number of new programs including the IT&T SIG Video Podcasts, which are now offered in multiple languages and Project Heartline, which is a pro bono project for a suicide hotline that serves 1.3 million people. Dave has served on the Board of the IT&T SIG in various positions since 2003. He received his PMP in 2002, his MBA, with a focus in Project Management, in 2005 from the University of Texas at Dallas and he completed Scrum Master Certification in 2007.
The Scrum Alliance and The IT&T SIG – Building a Bridge over the WaterfallEarly in 2007, PMI’s IT&T SIG and the Scrum Alliance began forging a cooperative relationship with two primary goals: 1) Build a bridge between their two organizations that would allow their respective members to have greater access to the tools offered by the other 2) Reduce the hostility that often arises between the PMI and Agile camps by those who are not entirely informed of the benefits of each approach or how they can be used together.
